Dr. FRANK A. CAMPI, PhD, Advisor, Gasification

Frank Campi has recently joined Sigma Capital as Advisor, Gasification. For the past 22 years, Mr. Campi has been a consultant on domestic and international projects including gasification and pyrolysis projects, where he worked with various multinational companies in engineering, engineering and executive management positions. He has been a consultant on fuels production from biomass and waste streams to economically produce boiler and transport fuels from a variety of materials that are typically discarded or inefficiently disposed of, including wood, sludge, waste oils and fats, landfill gas, etc., using a variety of technologies including gasification.

An independent consultant involved in domestic and international consulting and project development experience in the chemical and food industries, Mr. Campi  is very experienced in applying technically advanced solutions and systems to enhance operations and reduce costs of operations by analyzing the total production system. This has included the suggestion and installation of integrated combined heat and electrical power generation systems. He has led a variety of large scale projects including natural gas processing to LNG, low cost transport of natural gas as a dense compressed gas, methanol production using reforming and via gasification including downstream facilities for industrial resin production, cogeneration plants and specialty chemicals and food processing plants.

His consulting experience included evaluation, design and permitting of CHP (cogeneration power) plants, Biomass-based biofuel plant producing BioOil (boiler fuel) from wood, paper and organic waste streams using licensed technology, process development of biodiesel from virgin oils, yellow and brown grease, Landfill Gas to fuels and methanol production using Gasification and Reforming technologies.

Prior to his consulting company, Mr. Campi spent 10 years working for Borden International Inc., where he was Vice President - Business Planning and Engineering Manager / Project Manager.  His responsibilities included developing projects for the international division, such as world scale methanol (Syngas CO/H2) plants, food and chemical processing plants, warehousing and support facilities.  As Engineering Manager, he directed the work of 19 engineering departments in Europe, South America and Asia to execute capital projects and energy efficiency projects in all international food and chemical processing units

Prior to Borden, Mr. Campi was with Engelhard Industries Inc, Witco Chemical Corp., SNAM Progetti Inc., American Messer Inc., and Westinghouse Electric Corp. where he served in Process Engineering, Project Management and Engineering Management positions. His responsibilities included detail design, engineering and construction supervision for specialty chemical and petroleum processing plants that produced basic organic chemicals, fuels, polymers, lubricating oil and powder and liquid organic lubricants.  He has performed detail process designs, equipment specifications and engineering proposals for chemical plants and refinery modifications worldwide.  He was the project manger for the construction of a peak shaving liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility where he supervised field construction of the project until just prior to startup.  This plant is still in operation today providing natural gas to NYC during intense cold periods.

Mr. Campi has a BS In Chemical Engineering from City University and an MBA in Corporate Finance from NY University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in New York State.
